  • Company driver

The company's work truck driver for the company, and is assigned to a particular tractor. The company sets up the task load and tells the driver where their next load will be. All the driver has to do is push the truck and get to their destination on time.

  • Owner operator

Truck owner-operators have their own or buy one, and work for him. They can decide when they want to work and where they want to go. Just as with any business, becoming the owner-operator requires a lot of paperwork and business skills.

  • OTR (on the road)

OTR drivers are the ones who drive trucks for long-distance and out on the road for weeks. This is a common type of most of the drivers out there and how most new drivers get their start.

They are usually on the way from 1 to 4 weeks at a time. OTR drivers are the ones who get to travel around America and make good money doing it. On average OTR drivers can expect to get around 2500 miles in one week.

  • Regional

These drivers operate in a limited geographical area. Routes normally would not take them to more than 8 countries in the area of their operation or maybe just in one country.
